Is there any South American cichlid that looks identical to a green sunfish? I was in the lfs yesterday and saw a green sunfish and they said it was a South American fish. Then I said I catch them in the river all the time they said I was wrong. Then I showed them a picture of a green sunfish (that looked identical to the one in the tank) one lady just walked away and the other one said it was slightly different even though it clearly wasn't. Then she said well it's 7.99 like the other South Americans so I said thank you and left. They tried saying it was some sort of geo-something. I don't believe them at all since I know what a green sunfish looks like I just wanted to have discussions lol

There are several cichlids that have similar "worming" around the face but that is about it. It probably came from a shipment from a holding pond down south and that accidentally got mixed in. Green sunfish and geo's have a totally different body shape.

Lot of CA cichlid are identical to sunfish, especially at younger ages. Green terror, Jack Dempsey, geophagus etc...

There is a green x redbreast hybrid that do resembles a geophagus very strongly.

Probably just your lfs trying to sell you a green because it got mixed in with feeders and it has been eating all the Rosies lol.

These were fish that somebody brought in to get rid of. It was definitely a green sunfish not a SA fish
Picture is better than a 1,000 words from an internet guy.
