can green terror, convicts, oscar, and dempsey live together...please advise!:screwy:

I have had these all in one tank. For some reason the JD and the convicts didn't like the oscars and killed them. The Oscars were a little bit bigger than the convicts which where about 2". My green terrors never bother any of the other fish.

I had 6 green terrrors(all over 6 inches), 1 Jack Dempsey(6 inches), 14 convicts(4-2"inchers, 10- 1.5 inchers), 4 fire jewel cichlids( 4inches), 4 tiger striped Oscars(3-4 inches, convicts killed them)

I had all these fish in a 65 gallon tank, but the all seem to just stay on one side of the tank. I couldn't figure out why so I put them in a 55 gallon that is not as wide and now they seem like they are happier. They are swimming all over the tank and playing with each other.....alot more activity!!!!

that sounds like a recipe for Disaster Soup.

Cichlids are smart fish, and territorial. If you have a huge tank, it might work. One fish may simply decide he doesn't like the other one one day and murder him for lunch. Not a setup anyone should ever recommend, but one other people have pulled off. I wouldn't try that with anything less than a 120. My dempseys share a 55, and would murder any larger fish in the tank (they can't catch the giant danios!). Oscars get big, you would want a tank that size for full grown oscars anyway. Again, I can't reccomend that you do that for the potential carnage involved, but I'd be lying if I said it could never be done.

what about all that but no oscar

Again, somebody is likely to get hurt. SA/CA cichlids seem to make decisions on who they like or dislike as tank mates. Often it is dislike. I couldn't in the right mind recomend you doing that. Whether or not there is an oscar doesn't change much. If you do it, watch the tank CLOSELY to see how they interact, and if you have to pull one out, have another home ready for it!

how bigs the tank??

I have a tank with a Gt,Convict,Salvini and an Oscar. The GT chases evryone around the tank and is a right meanie, He has a real disliking for the Salvini but can't catch it LOL. The Oscar,Convict and Salvini have been in the tank longer than the GT and all got on well before i added him. As for dempsey's i can't say (never kept one). Fish are all individuals and what works in one setup wont work in another, If you have a tank around 125g,150g,180g then i would say give it a go. As mentioned before have a tank ready just incase things go nasty.

That is a fine mix if the tank is big enough. I have all of those in my 125 right now with no trouble. They are also with a Jag and a Festae.
