I have a ZZ that i've posted pic on here before and it was beautiful and has gorgeous color about up till 1month ago. He got beat up pretty bad and his scales were torn and everything but he recovered and looked almost exactly as before. Then he got beat up again and now his color is gone. I got rid of that other fish so i dont think it has anthin to do with dominance. I do have black gravel so could that be the cause? He is black now. Almost no color. I feed him good food. I have a mix of pure color enhancer and head enhancer

the gravel has always been the same.. black. His diest is 3 diffrent pellets and bloodworms. I dont know what the parameters are but its crystal clear and always in unless i do a water change

he is prolly depressed. you would to if you got beat down two times by same dude. i do honestly think these guys get depressed, affected by several circumstances. is there fish still in same aquarium? if so are they his size or bigger? or just little guys?

now that the other fish is gone, give him time to recover and become more sure about himself again. wile still "playing get my hand threw the glass, sucker" with him, to add some excitement and interaction. make sure a good diet is provided as well.

i'm sure he'll come around and be even better then before :)

I think your proglem is the feed...Seems to me like you feed too many enhancers...These foods that claim to enhance your flowerhorn are not intended to be a stable diet. You should only use these food about twice a week and have sumthin more wholesome as a staple. These enhances make FH look amazing, but after time they make your fish turn black due to the poor nutrion and bad digestion.
