Thanks to the help from the members of this great site, I found out that my Red Devil is a female.

1. Is a female Red Devil more aggressive than a male?
2. Will the female Red Devil get the big bump on her head?
3. I think I might be feeding her to much, how often and how much should I feed her?
4. How large will a female Red Devil get? She is the only fish in my 75 gallon tank, will that be big enough for her adult years?
5. Anything interesting anybody could tell me about a female red devil would great!

I already know thats her tank :) anything I put in there she kills. I tryed to put another Red Devil in there it was alittle smaller and it didnt last 1 day. The only thing she hasnt killed is the 2 small albino cat fish they swim around her and she doesnt mess with them.

Thanks!

1. they are not more aggressive.
2. females can get nuchal humps but not as big as males normally.
3. feed her 2-3 times a day.
4. i think they get to around 8" max a 75 gallon will be fine for life.

1:no,only in breeding time maybe.
2:not as much as a male, but they get a little bump
3:if (s)he eats it all,its ok,,i feed my fishes twice a day.
4:ive seen 16"males 14"fem..so 75gall or 277liters,is not big enough,for a couple.
and alone??hmm would u like it to be alone for the rest of your life? ;) ...
IF u gonna try to put a male in,,,beSURE its a female devil what u got already now...and try to get one who's just as big or little bigger then the female(how big is she,,got a pic?)
ohh yeah...and a bigger tank would be nice.
good luck

Agree with everything, but 8" max??? I have an 11" female, and she's only 2 and a half years old. As soon as I throw pics on my new computer I'll post them

If I find a Male her size whats the best way for me to introduce him into the tank?

with a divider first for at least a week. to see if she shows signs of interest. if she does then her tube will start to drop fairly rapidly. also pay attention to how the male becomes accustomed to her. raising the temp to 82F might also spark breeding activities.

i would look for a male a little bit bigger then her. at least a inch. because he will have to be able to dish back what he receives. i do think females can get quite aggressive during breeding and courtship.

oh and females can get bigger then 8inches.
