So in my tank I have,5 kinds of bichir,2 kinds of knives, 3types of catfish,5 kinds of spiney eel,1 spotted gar,a true water salamander and a,jewel pike.I tried adding a fire belly newt. It semmed to work for a few months then it turned up dead and half eaten.I would like something similar that actually likes tropical water temps.and carry enough aggression to hang with the rest of my prehistoric monstrosities.:headbang2:drool::headbang2:screwy::headbang2 :naughty:

How big are your fish? A firebelly newt wouldn't get big enough and is pretty slow and would end up being a meal for your fish. Also most newts breath air so you would need some sort of area that the newt could access air.

The only fully aquatic amphib that might survive is an Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) Ture newts like cooler water and will probably get munched by the fish eventually.

Ugh. What size is your tank? Spotted gar + newt = bad idea. Infact, spotted gar+ most other things equals bad idea.

I dont want to be mean but im guessing you did zero research before stocking your tank?

:iagree:

Axolotl would probably be poor. Their external gills are very sensitive, and fish love to pick at them.

Yeah, but it's also the only one I can think of that gets big enough...apart from an amphiuma...
