Hi Guys,

I had some questions about Aros. Whats the smallest Aro thats legal in the US? Also whats a minimum tank size? Silvers get so damn big, I dont wanna bother with one of them. Reason I ask is, I may get a big tank in the future, something like a 300 gal. Also, the Jardini bothers me because of its aggressive reputation. So I was thinking of the other species that are legal here. What are my options? Thanks

60 gallon is good for one. silver to test the waters. if you keep it to 14 inches with no drop eye and barbel damage, you are ready for another aro.

enjoy

is this a joke? :screwy:

smallest aros are leichardti and jardini. leichardti stay smaller i believe

60g for a Silver:screwy: Maybe for a grow out, but not permanent.

Anyways...I agree with Pounder. You're only limited to Blacks and Leis if you don't want a Jar. Lei are smaller than Blacks, I believe. And those are the 2 pricey Aros.

But arent Lei's about as aggressive as Jars? Thats just what I heard. Its hard to tell the difference.

no, lei's are more mellowed out. More aggressive than silvers, but less than jars...at least that is what i'm told

You could keep a arowana in a 125 minimum for about six months and then you would need to upgrade to a 180 at least .Eventually getting something bigger would be better. You will also need a high turnover rate, filtration is key. Including weekly water changes. Aros grow extremely fast, few inches a month and will reach 2 feet in under 2 years and continue to grow. jars and lei grow slower and don't reach as large of size, but their temperament usually leads to a single specimen tank. To say a 60 gallon would work, maybe as a short term prison cell. It's always good to have the space and then get the fish. You don't want to jump into something you cant handle. good luck
