hi

i am planning to get a super red arowana (the small one) pretty soon. so before that, i would like to clarify some of my doubts.

i understand that water, filter and food are the most important things for the arowana .

so i am planning to get a 240cm L x 80cm W x 80cm H tank (approx 400 gallon).

my questions are

For water
1- can i use drinking water for the aquarium? will it lacks any necessity materials for the fish to live?

2- i live in indonesia which have tropical climate, do i still need thermometer and heater?

3- if i put freshwater plants (w/e the types are), will it make any differences? will it do good or nothing?

4- do i really need to change 20-30% of the water every week?

For filter
1- is it necessary to have 2 filters? one in each side of the aquarium to make sure all the debris and/or unwanted materials get filtered thoroughly? i am actually thinking for three filters with the third one at the center of the tank..

2- should i get internal or external filter? or both will even better? im not really concerned with the budget i just want the best for the fish.

For food
1- i am planning to give the arowana ghost shrimps as its main diets. do i need to quarantine the shrimps? the LFS i get the shrimps do not mix their water filters among the tanks.

2- can i just dump the shrimps (let say 20 of it) all at once, and refill it again once it is gone? or do i need to feed the arowana a couple shrimps at once for 2-3 times a day?

lastly..
1- for the aquarium back ground , what collor will suits super red arowana the best? is it black? and for the sand, should i get dark or light color?

2- since the tank will be put in my office, so, is it ok to leave the arowana with little to no food every saturday and sunday as the office closes?

thanks!!

Tap water- with water conditioner

Filters- the more the better, you should do a sump and or a couple of canister filters

Heater- you should keep one/ two to keep the temp consistent

Water changes- YES! You will need to do water changes each week to keep water clean and your fish healthy

Plants- there are many, I am no plant expert but they help keep nitrates down

Food- feed a wide variety of food, shrimp, pellets, tilapia...

Heaters are important since high temperatures will help you fight diseases and can also help you by giving lots of appetite to your fish, as for water, I guess you could either fill the tank first with tap water and let it rest for a while and then cycle it, or use the drinking water, eventhought 400gal won't be cheap!

As for feeding, you'll have to learn you fish's eating pattern so then you'll know when and how to feed.

As of plant I'd recomend a large Amazon Sword Plant (Echinodorus amazonicus), they're strong and healthy plants that will withstand any mayor attack or collision from the arowana.

For filtering, if you're not planning on doing frequent large water changes then filtration must be at the highest level possible.

I hope this info helps!

Tap water is fine as long as its drinkable, use a water conditioner.

Filters are your choice, just make sure there is enough filtration to cover the entire gallonage of the tank.

plants will help by pulling ammonia out of the water in small quantities, otherwise they just look nice.

yes you have to do water changes.

Your food choice is not good. Your aro will need a wider variety of food, preferably fish fillets, pellets and shrimp as a once-in-a-while thing.

Your fish will be fine for 2 days without food.

colors for aros I do not know as I cannot keep Asian aros here.
