hey everybody i was thinking about getting a BGK for my 150 but had a couple questions. right now i have two EBJD"S to angels, and a severum in there, all under 3 inches. will the BGK be ok with those fish. also will BGK's eat NLS pellets or will i have to feed frozen foods exclusively? lastly are BGK's jumpers.

Shouldn't cause you any issues, as mine at 8" doesn't touch my Cory Cats or Geo's. They can eat pellets, flakes, bloodworms, brineshrimp, etc. BUT! It all depends on the fish. Some take pellets and flakes willingly, others stick to only frozen foods or bloodworms. Usually as they grow used to the aquarium setting and other foods being added to the aquarium, they can switch over fairly well.
Lastly, I've never had a BGK jump, but have seen one or two end up on the floor at my previous workplace. So always prepare for the unexpected, just in case.

I don't even have a lid on my 120, with two BGKF's- they don't jump.
Bloodworms are my guys favorites. Just make sure they have plenty of hiding spots.

Also, if you have never raised them before, IMO the bigger the better. Once they get bigger they are pretty hardy, but when they are tiny (under 3 inches) they don't have the best survival rate

thanks for the info guys. perok infortunately only plae i can get one is petsmart. the one i got is over 3 inches though and seems to be doing good so far. here's a pic of him

Don't count on a BGK not getting out of tanks. The Mod in this section, Ben, forgot to close the lid and found his nice big one dead on the floor.

I love the tank set up.

If your concerned about jumping. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's buy some chicken wire about the 1/2" to 1" squares, stamp it flat, cut it, and use that instead of a glass lid. One of the best things I ever did, so much less maintenanc and I enjoy the sounds.

My BGK didn't even bother guppies that were in his tank and he's around 6-7in. He eats even flake food and steals floating pellets off the surface, so they eat everything. Kept mine without a lid and never had an issue with jumping, but I've heard some people did, so better safe then sorry.

@ 12"+, mines started getting a little more agressive, more terretorial. No major dmges though. He's about 14" now & living in my 430 gal aquarium with my silver aro, two achara catfish, lima shovelnose, mono peacock bass. He's grown alot in the one year that he's been in there. Large bgk are tough fish. Most of the fish in my 430 gal out size & out weigh him 2x, but he eats good, is fatter and bigger than ever & has no problem hanging with the big boys. During the day, he looks all inocent, but @ night I can catch him harrasing the other fish esp the achara's. That's the oldest fish I currently own. About 5 yrs now.
