I have an empty 20gal and noticed a nice pair of steatocranus casuarius (sp?) at the lfs. I know absolutely nothing about them other than they look really cool, seem healthy, and eat like pigs. So, is a 20 long ok? Will they need bigger diggs? What should I know about them other than water parameters? They would have the tank to themselves... Any help would be great before I decide to buy.

They would do well and breed in a 20 long.

They are pretty shy and quiet in comparison. Very neat fish to observe though. I agree that a 20 long is a good tank for a pair. Put in some large rocks, a fine sand/aragonite, and a filter with good flow. Consider putting some eggcrate below a thick sand bed as they will excavate the tank to their desire.

I've seen them in with Malawi in good shape, but you might see their personality more if you kept them with something like Tang Shellies?
