hello,
well I recently purchase a pair of channa marulioides, size about 50cm each, but it seems that they dont like each other, so I moved one of them into my outdoor pond, and still keeping the other one in the tank. Now that they are apart, the questions is, will the maru attack other fishes in my pond? I've read the sticky regarding channa species information, and its written that channa marulioides is the most passive type of snakeheads. So what do you guys think? Does anyone have any experience with this fish? pls share info..
thanks

Not always the case.
I had to separate one of my 3 as the other two paired up and were in a breeding mood.
The One I separated was one of the nastiest fish I have ever owned.
By the time it had reached about 60cm, it had killed and eaten many other fish. Some of those fish I can not understand how he managed to kill, and eat all evidence just through the night!

Be careful.

thanks, did yours killed others which are smaller than it self? and do you keep the rest in the same tank on their own or do you mix them with other fish?

HI.
I had 4, sold one to a friend when they were young.
Then I had a pair form as they grew and had to separate the 3rd from the pair.

The pair live together in once tank, the single lived in a tank with other types of fish over the years (mainly cats, Bichirs, Gar, Dats, Aro etc.
He managed to kill and eat a whole lot of fish.
Stupid of me to put anything with him really, but hey Marulioides are great community fish right?
Seriously mate, just be wary of them.

Thanks, well now that the fish is also in my possession, then I guess its a time bomb before my other fish start dissapearing. I guess my task now is to scope mine out of the pond and make a tank just for him alone. Cheers

I also have a marulioide, about 60cm and is in the same tank with oscars, snovelnose, boucortis, lioncy, jaguar, carpintis, viejas and a few other cat fish, I know the kind of fish a channa can be and all is instinct to be a predator, but I think we can keep this fish with certaine rules, for exemple, if we feed them with live food, them we should hope the disaster, as well, if we make them estarve is the same situation.
I know that is no dogma, is possible that "tomorow" I can have problems, but the price do have such smart and beautifull fish is quite value.
cheers and hope to have your point of view
