I put my questions in an easy to read format so i'll spare you all of a long boring paragraph like most people=D

1. How many adult CL's can I put into a 75g?
2. At what size are CL's considered adults?
3. What is the average size of a CL?
4. What is the biggest known size for a CL?

1. depends on the size of the CL but you can't keep them for life in a 75g.
2. I think they're sexually mature when they're like 4-5 years old.
3. since they take such a long time to grow the average size in the aquarium is smaller. probably because many have been stunted or because they die before they can attain their full size.
4. there are a few 12" or larger clown loaches grown in the aquarium and in the wild they're suppose to be able to reach around 16".

Looks like everything was answered. I will just add that it's very hard to find any larger loaches for sale. A 75 gallon would be a good starter tank for smaller loaches.

It's usually hard to find CL's larger than 3" at the store, unless an individual is getting rid of their's due to the size. I would keep around 5-7 clowns in a 75. That way, if they get really large, they won't really overcrowd your tank.

I've read that they are sexually mature when they are full grown, about 12" or so. Most asian importers inject hormones in the loaches to get them sexually mature at a younger age. I've also read some other sources that they are sexually mature at around 7". Since clowns have accidently bred in the home aquaria, there is no real document fact on them. Just reports or stories of them breeding.

It's hard to say. Most clowns are sold at a young age in shops. You maybe lucky to find loaches at 3" or larger from individuals getting rid of them.

I've seen a photo of one to be about 11.5" or so. Unfortunately, you don't know how old the photo is, so it could be larger by now. Plus, there is no reference to the size, so you just have to take the word of poster.

from what oddball told me, it takes over 10 years for them to start breeding

I'm in the same boat with a 75 gallon I just got that is cycling now and will be filled with clown loaches. I asked the same question and kinda gathered about having 10 clowns in the tank (buying at about 3"). They take a while to grow so you should have plenty of time to upgrade tank sizes when they get bigger

The best thing about stocking with clown loaches is that size is not an issue in the long run. If you need to thin out when they get larger, you will have no trouble finding takers for large loaches.
