have any of you guys heard of freedom filters or have them on your tanks, or have used them on your tanks? I've got a freshwater 140G and been thinking about switching it over to salt. I found a local guy on craigslist that wants to take a step back in to freshwater. he said I give him my gravel and he would give me sand, I give him my driftwood and he would give me live rock, etc etc. only think he wanted to keep was his sump/reguim and skimmer. I don't know why.

well I called my friend to who has both salt and freshwater to see if he had any saltwater stuff for sale. he said he had his freedom filter for sale. I go what's that, he goes you don't remember this filter it was on my 180 reef I use to have. this filter is nothing more then a box sump with a built in protein skimmer. most people will say man that won't work, I've seen it work I've been to house almost every weekend. I just was wondering if I did fowlr would this filter work. (www.freedomaquariums.com) using it with a RIo-3100 pump? all he said I would have to do is dump the waste out of the skimmer regularly, and do 25% procent water chances every 2-3 weeks on a light bio load. I plan to keep my tank bio light, clowns, damsels,
snow flake eel, gobys, coral beauty, small tanks like a hippo, sailfin, and yellow.

the guy wanting to do the trade said he might be willing to sell the sump/refuge/wet dry and skimmer for a good price.

um weird the guy now sounds like he is willing to sell the t5 lights, refuge and skimmer to me for a good price. might give him the fx5 if he gives me the refuge and skimmer.

i was just doing some reading up about them and it seems legitmate and the testimonials seem good, has anyone used a freedom filter or know anything about them. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to use this?

mr.reef24 I have some questions. so some said if I went to saltwater I would need 2LBS of sand per a gallon of water, so he said I would need 280LBS of sand is that true and how many lbs of live rock would I need? 140(84x16x24)
what are some good refuge and skimmers that don't break the wallet.

what are some good refuge and skimmers that don't break the wallet. Well a good protein skimmer is ASM is a good protein skimmer and for a cheap but just as good if not better get a fish tank that will fit into your stand and turn it into your own sump just look up some tips on a search engine on how to and you'll save at least a few hundred plus you can build it to suit your need's. And, like alway's send me a private message if you need help with anything at all.

yes but it might be akward under a stand. i done it before it was a pain to switch equipment.

btw you dont need sand at all people do barebottom in salt too. you may loose some anerobic filtration spots but with sand beds you have to maintain them if there deeper then a inch.

personally i like shallow sand beds

cool thanks for the tips, right now I can't afford saltwater type stuff, so I'm just focusing on my discus cichlids. ha ha I can't even afford to go to see my doctor this month.
