I have a 110 gal right now, but my Gar's just about 4 inches long. I'll be keeping him there until he reaches 18" or such, THEN I'll move him. They grow fast, but not amazingly fast, so you can have your gar ( for a little while ) in a small tank.

Polypterus;1944629; said:Tank size depends on the fish and it's growth..There is actually no set rule and enormous tanks or ponds are not actually needed in a number of cases and with a few species. A 4 inch gar in a 110 is actually a very bad idea..The fish should be stepped up in tank size as it grows.. To large of a tank is just as bad as too small of a tank.
For the record they do grow amazingly fast when properly kept. When kept properly you should see explosive growth during the first year..If you do not see this you should question why..
