I recently picked up a small (4") dorado. Are they known to attack/kill tankmates in general or only ones small enough to eat? Mine is currently trying to pick off fry which is fine but I was wondering how larger tankmates will fare.
I have had mine (and still do) with Spotted Pictus.... No problems. I even have a Giant Danio that is smaller than the Dorado that believes it is a true Dorado as well.... Schools with the other 2 and is always first to eat.
I think they have a bad rep. No problem with rays either... In fact I had to move one ray after it took one of the Dorado down.
I would NOT hesitate to mix them with similar sized fish at all.......
I have two three inchers that I've had for about a month now and had to separate them because thay constantly fight with each other. The bigger one now constantly picks fights with a grammodes cichlid and they were actually locking jaws a few times, the grammodes does not back down any time dorado starts with him.Lately it seems that the dorado has had enough and seems to have mellowed down some which is good because he was losing a good deal of scales during these mini fights.
Plenty of old pics of my 750g floating around but not with my new stock. Taking pics of a 4" dorado in a 750g tank is a futile effort. These guys are fast.
