Ok, I'm thinking about turning my 75g into a planted tank. I will be puting it together slowly as cash flow is pretty tight. So I'm going to start with lighting and i'm feeling overwhelmed by all of the choices. There are compact flour., t5, t5 HO, metal halides and so on.

I have read that T5 HO lamps are better for shallow tanks as their light does not penetrate as far, but would a 75 standard be shallow or not? Should i go w/power compacts? From what i've read ,they produce alot of heat but put out alot in the way of lumens. Do they produce enough heat that I would then require a chiller? I was looking at the Satellite compacts w/lunars and they are right around my price range. Metal Halides are way out of my budget so i wont even touch on those.

I'm planning on keeping a few (4 or so) Geos and some roselines or something. This will be my first go on a truly planted tank, so please help.

dont worry about the depth. a standard 75g is no problem for any type of lighting. before you can decide on lighting, you need to decide what youre doing for co2. this will determine the type/level of lighting you need
