I have had both for about 2-3 weeks,i got them from Aqua Scape. They came with Gill Curl and smaller than what was stated.Anyways through constant water changes(every day)and salt i took pretty good care of the Gill Curl, the problem is they seem to always be breathing hard, they are eating well 1 earthworm each a day.Sometimes they look like they are going to explode.I am just worried that something else is wrong with them i guess i wouldnt worry if they were a bit bigger.I bought them as 4-5",but really they were more like 2",they are just now hitting 4''.Anyways what could be causing this heavy breathing i'm not worried the water it is cleaned daily.

It should not be gasping for air. Of of my RTC has gill curl(?) on the soft part and he is not gasping at all.

MY Red tail does this when i turn on the light sometimes cause he doesn't like it i guess. It can just be the fish or may be lack of oxygen so get some bubbles going on in your tank and see how it turns out.

chances are pretty good that water temp is to high...or there isn't enough airation in the tank... Weird cause RTC's are very tolerant of low Oxygen levels

What would you consider to be to high for RTC? It gets fairly hot over here - water temp can be in high forties over here sometimes. I absolutely agree that RTCs are very hardy fish (mine survived the 16C)

I'll get another airstone, but the other fish dont seem to be breathing hard.:irked:Anybody else have problems with Aqua Scape??

Like Basslover stated they do tolerate low O2 levels but yours may not. Even if the other fish are not breathing heavy the RTC may still be stressed. I had the same problem when I firt got one. My water params were perfect and I didn't over feed but still had heavy breathing. Put in a 5" airstone/disc and that was the trick. Now, no heavy breathing even after a large meal.
