hello =] I currently have 3 lil umbee's when I had 6 in total 3 died after the night I got it when I went to bed. The thing is...I got 1 umbee that is slightly bigger than the 2nd largest umbee of the 3 and I have this lil guy...but my questions is about his aggression towards the others...and I know that they dont go too well together of the same species. Its showing more colorations than the rest and is growing fast and taller.I guess its impossible to sex them at this tiny size but what do you think would the possibility of the bigger umbee which is stockier and taller than the rest be a male? I can take pics but I have to do that later since its getting late and stuff over here and all the tank lights are all off already. The bigger one is about maybe an inch long so not really anything can be identify at this size. From what im hearing from others is that females tend to be more aggressive towards the males and later on killing the male thus making them harder to find.Is this just a show of dominance? or a male behavior?

You have three umbees... how big is your tank, man?

Anyway, at 1", it is pretty hard to sex. It will be much easier in about 3-4 months. Might as well wait untill then, as it wont matter for a little while anyway.

well for now they are currently in my 30 gallon growout for abit then they'll go into the 55 gallon then when they reach atleast 6" or so...i'll start moving them into a outdoor pond im about to get started in making. The dimensions on it are 9'x5'x4' so what should be plenty of space for the umbee's =]

but I may end up keeping one of them and selling 2 of them later when they grow up if its confirmed of having no males in the batch

There is so much stuff kicking up about Umbies out there. I don't believe that only females kill males.. could it have happened to one person((I read the same story)?? yes.. I researched all the same stuff I'm sure back when I first decided to get them.
But there's simply no way of knowing right now. I would make some sort of divider or split them up in some way right now so you don't loose anymore. As they get larger sometimes as small as a few inches you might be able to get an idea of what sex they are. But for most sexing is a long ways off.

oh ok =] i'll go with your idea in adding a divider

yeah just kinda cross fingers and have fun growing them out.. so many people say different things it's hard to know what is factual and what is just one persons experiance that might not be info to base anything on.

oh ok =] but what about growth rates? like how fast do they grow like each month? and is their anything I can do to help grow it faster? I could always feed a nice large variety of food in its diet and lots and lots of water changes..is that what i need for bigger growth?

does anyone know about their growth rates like monthly or so with proper varied diets and lots of water changes?
