well as most of yall know i got a rtc over the weekend, well i made him 2 caves at the front of the tank by just propin rocks together, well he stays in there ALL the time lol i have to put his food in his cave so he can eat. my questions are, when should i remove the caves and if i do now will he be un happy, the only othe tank mate he has is a pleco the same size as him. and second, my pleco hangs with him in the cave ALL the time, why is that? i would like for him to clean the rest of the tank, thats why i was asking can i remove the caves.

I would keep the caves, tho he will outgrow them FAST (mine did :D) they feel much more secure when they have somewhere to hide.

Very few fish will clean a tank. That's kinda your job. :D

Leave the caves, or he'll get stressed. Oh, and buy a gravel vac. You're gonna need it.

i have a RTC he does the exact same thing, its nothing to worry about. RTC are ambushers so they mainly come out at night. thats when he'll get his exercise. as long as he is eating well he is perfectly healthy

He will stay in the caves you provide constantly until 10-12" in my experience after that it is safe to take out his cave as he won't really need Thames anymore unless u have a larger aggressive fish in that picks on him

thanks, i do a weekly 50% water change and vac on all my tanks, everything is pretty clean but i would like my pleco out more lol, makes my jod a little easier, i have just never seen a pleco hang out with a catfish alot, and i do watch to make sure the pleco stays away from the slim coat. to tell you the truth the rtc will keep him away, its the pleco being friendly not the rtc being friendly hahaha

another quick question my red tail likes to swim with a upward motion in the cave and almost lay vert. in the cave and will even swim upside down in the cave, is this normal? pretty cool to watch though

If a pleco is properly fed, they will usually not suck on their tankmates' slime coats. Just make sure you give him lots of veggies, and leafy greens.

It's normal. I have a rtcxtsn in the grow out now that will lay in his pot on his sides, once even saw him swimming upside down in it....really I think they may just get bored
