Hey Jeff, you sent me these outstanding A. Sagittae a few months back and I've been having a hard time sexing them. They've been acting like a pair for a while now but until recently never settled down to spawn. Then, last week, the colored Sag's tube dropped and 'she' became extra feisty and territorial. I got my hopes up for a spawn but days later the behavior stopped and her genitalia was no longer enlarged. No eggs but at least I had sexed the fish... or so I thought.
Yesterday, to my surprise, the barred Sag's tube dropped. 'His' looks exactly like the colored Sag's genitalia so I'm completely stumped.
They have currently staked out a territory and are displaying spawning behavior.
Do I have two confused females or is everything unfolding as it should? Hoping that you could shed some light in the situation. Thanks.
