Hey Jeff, you sent me these outstanding A. Sagittae a few months back and I've been having a hard time sexing them. They've been acting like a pair for a while now but until recently never settled down to spawn. Then, last week, the colored Sag's tube dropped and 'she' became extra feisty and territorial. I got my hopes up for a spawn but days later the behavior stopped and her genitalia was no longer enlarged. No eggs but at least I had sexed the fish... or so I thought.
Yesterday, to my surprise, the barred Sag's tube dropped. 'His' looks exactly like the colored Sag's genitalia so I'm completely stumped.
They have currently staked out a territory and are displaying spawning behavior.
Do I have two confused females or is everything unfolding as it should? Hoping that you could shed some light in the situation. Thanks.

Good question flowerpower.
Tube on barred fish is very extended from body. Still, it's a little tough for me to give 100% confirmation of sex from photo. The elongated abdominal area on barred fish resembles that of a male.
If they are courting, then it probably won't be long till somebody lays eggs.
Please keep me posted.
