I know of some good locations for collecting Fl gar but i want to net them, but i dont know anything about collecting or netting. can anyone give me some instruction, guidance and advice?

Netting is illegal in most states. Check your states guidelines.

Call your local Wildlife & Fisheries Dept and if a permit isn't required, ask for something in writing to carry with you so you don't get haggled by the game warden. They will write you a ticket/take you to jail out of ignorance.
I have an experimental dip net permit & one for scientific collection from the La Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries which allows me to use any form of collection I would like, aside from electricity & chemical tactics.
The scientific collection permit was free & the dip net permit was $20 I believe. This will probably be totally different in your state, I'm just giving you an example.
