I bought three 2 inch Rams the other day and I was wondering if anybody out there who has had experience with them can enlighten me about them. They are very shy and passive but that's O.K. since they are in a 75 gallon tank with other non aggressive fish. they are cute, sweet little buggers but when do they color up? They have a little color to them and I think that I have a pair but I'm just curious about when they will start to get their adult coloration? Can anyone help me out?

To see them at their absolute best, they like warm, soft, acidic water and it needs to be as low in nitrates and TDS as possible. And feed high quality food.

Once they settle in to their surroundings, they should color up for you if they're happy.

I don't know if the water is acidic or not but the P.H. is good and I keep my tank very clean and the fish have a varied diet. The guy I bought them off of said that he's had them for a few weeks and that they were in hard water but they can tolerate that kind of water. Do you think they will color up? My P.H. is about 7.5 but I don't know how hard or acidic it is.

Since they've (probably?) been bred and acclimated in your local water conditions, they should do fine. 7.5 is basic, not acidic. Below 7.0 is acidic. Kh is what I was referring to when I said soft. Not sure if you'll be able to successfully breed them at that, but they might do just fine. Don't go messing with your ph/kh either without a lot of research.
What temp are you keeping them at?
