I just had to put a bass down from supected mouth rot/flexibacter. I have 2 other bass, a green sunfish and a catfish. The 2 bass, one in particular, the bigger one, shows signs of a loss of appetite and is sluggish. Is it possible JUST the bass have contracted the illness? The others seem perfectly fine, so far.
The bass I put down had a small open wound on his lower jaw. Probably from running into the glass chassing minows. It got bigger over about 2 weeks and it looked like his lower jaw was decaying, and it began to appear to be splitting in the middle. He wouldnt eat for the last week or more and also appeared to be getting some barely visible fin rot.
Any advice would help. I'll post pics tomorrow. Thanks

Columnaris (Flexibacter columnaris)
Synonyms:
Cotton-wool, Mouth Fungus, Flexibacter

Symptoms:
White mouth with tiny filaments, white areas near edge of scales, clamped fins, fins start to rot in the later stage, fish struggles and sways near the surface

Causes:
This is bacterial infection which is very common in the aquaria and is very contagious. Immediate action is needed to contain it before it spreads to other fish.

Treatment:
Broad spectrum antibiotics, Sera Baktopur, Binox, Maracyn I & II, Kanacyn, Terramycin, Acriflavine, Furan, Copper Sulfate

Flexibacter columnaris thrives very well in warm waters therefore it is necessary to gradually lower the temperature to prevent it from progressing.

I guess you cant edit posts on this board. Here are a few pics.
Lupin, they dont have those symptoms. Any idea what else this could be?

Did you isolate it in another tank already? Check its poo and see how it looks. You mentioned that this fish was wounded and lacks appetite. The wounds seem infected and the fish seems in very poor conditions judging by its appearance and white patches on fins, gill plates and forehead. Did you observe any aggression of other fish towards this one? Search for Jungle Fungus Eliminator although the site Dr. Foster and Smith should have one on sale. If not, try Maracyn for possible bacterial infections.

More treatments can be found here.

Thanks Lupin. No aggression toward him. He was actually pretty healthy looking before this. I euthenized the fish sunday. I didnt figure he would have made it. According to my LFS, it probably wasnt necessary and it probably didnt transfer to other fish. I bought some mela fix to have on hand just in case, as a remedy if signs of problems appear. He advised to do nothing just yet but observe them.

I would consider an isolation actually. With a wound that infected and the rest doing well, treating the affected fish is much safer than involving everyone else into it.
