Sup fellow rays keepers..

I would like to double check some of my doubts..

1- tank lighting
--- whats the preferable tank brightness for the rays? Will they do best in low lighting condition? Or it doesnt matter? I house them with a super red arowana and i am tanning the aro 12 hours a day. I dont know if a 12 hours intense bright light will cause some serious harm to rays? Or will they adapt?

2- foods for rays
--- i feed them superworm, frozen bloodworm, ghost shrimps and market prawns, is there any other foods you recommend me feeding them?

3- breeding size/age
--- at what age/ size do rays commonly start to breed?

4- tank mate with bichir
--- yes or no? They have been together in about 1 month now, and they doin fine..

Thx

One more thing..

If and only if anything goes wrong, either with the ray or with water parameter, what symptoms should I be aware of?

1. Doesn't matter as long as they are not stressed out.
2. Ditch the ghost shrimp for parasite reasons and add tilapia and pellets
3. Should be between 1.5 to 2 years size does not have much to do with it
4. Not 100 percent sure because I have never tried it but I would say no just because I would want more rays
And your last question.
Look for loss of appetite. Sluggish movements or not moving. Shedding slime coat. Hip bones

I think your questions have been answered but No 4..

My son had a +/- 27cm poly with his two male rays
He had been in the tank for almost a year and we never saw problem
Then about a month ago we started noticing the male motoro was not himself... he came to eat but then would hide most of the time when usually he spent his life up and down the glass and floating on top of the air bubbles smacking away at them
First we thought it might be the silver arowana that's about 80cm that maybe was not happy with Ray in his face all the time and we were considering moving him

Last Saturday as my son got home to do his water changes and change Dragon around, he walked through the door to find Ray ( who is about 40cm disc) frantically swimming everywhere with the poly hanging onto his tail....
So.. we had to find a home for poly as we have rays in all the tanks and were not going to take any chances
Fortunately Ray is ok.

I dont know about other people's experience but i wont ever add one to my rays tank...

Maybe when they small its ok.... but once they get big its a problem...
Anyway.. whatever you decide to do.. good luck with your babies
