I have 3 small salvinis in a 55 gal the largest of the 3 is about 3 in and the other 2 are about 2 in ( maybe a little bit bigger).

My question lies with the color when i got my frist one (the bigger one) it had brite yellow, blue and red, i bought it with many other fish (jack dempsty, trimacs, and an oscar) scence then i've moved fish around and gotten new ones now i've gotten 3 salvinis in one tank but all 3 lost their color and i dont know why dose any one have suggestions about how they might get their color back. thanx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it was a recent move they are probably just stressed. More then likely one will get brighter colors once one has become dominate over the others. I have a female that is just brilliantly colored.

yep, i agree. a week tops and colors will be way more complete.

I dont know if there was another thead that got deleted, but I'll share what I did earlier.

it could just be that you have 3 males. I got a male and a female that both had good colors at the store, and when I got them home the female took off with color and growth. The male is muddy and drab, the female is vibrant and bright.

It's true their colors will come back in time..however, if you put them in a planted tank w/ driftwoods...their comfort level will be even more exagerated..I have pics of the parents and fry!!! The females are brilliant in color..though the male slightly less but very colorful in time of mating. There after, he will be dull in color..hope this help!!!

Yeah, the females get way more bright then the males. If you don't know what you have. The female will have a black blotch on her dorsal fin and gill plate.

Thanx u guys but if they r all males then will there b more fighting over territory i have much to hide in and lots of space until they get bigger many plants and caves....

i have read in other threads that males will not tolerate other male salvini in the tank.
only have the one salvini myself, though.

My pair will not put up with any other salvini. Male or female. And at breeding time, they will not put up with any fish at all. So they have the 75 to themselves.

moving could be the reason or sometimes they just don't like a particular tank. i had a pair in a 200L tank for about 6months with very little colour then i transferred them to my massive 800L tank and they changed to vibrant colour overnight. this is a pic of the male who's about 5" in his favourite cave
