Questions about shipping to Hawaii and Alaska.

Now bare with me, I have never shipped anything to Hawaii or Alaska before, but I have a buddy who is going to move to Hawaii for some work; he wants me to ship him some of his camera gear ( I live in California). My question is: Does it cost more to ship to Hawaii? Versus shipping from where I live to New Jersey.

Thanks, I have no experience shipping outside of the continental US.
