We have a 125 gallon, 75 gallon and a 65 gallon full of Lake Malawi Peacocks...We are getting ready to buy a 220 gallon tank which will leave us with a 125 gallon...Hubby and I both love the Discus.....What type of PH do they like as we have no experience with them, but they are just too beautiful....Any advice is appreciated....We just want our own group...No interest at all in selling babies or even breeding...

Thanks!

Lisa

Where your ph is isn't as important as a constant ph. What size discs are you planning? What are your water change schedules going to be?

Discus are cool but I love africans much more, africans are also less expensive :)

Heres a couple of my africans...

But I guess I can understand you wanting to do something different for that new tank...pH for discus should be around 7.0

There are people who breed discus in a ph reaching 7.8-8. What you want to maintain is a stable ph. Make sure you check your tap comming out and your tap aged, if there is a moderate difference then it is best to age water for water changes.

She said she had no interest in breeding them

domestics are kept is ph as high as 8.6 without problems. I have wilds in 7.6 and they are healthy. I would suggest adults or fish of at least 4". much less maintenence and far easier to keep. they are not as hard to keep as some would have you believe.

start with a good stock and you wont have much problem. mayi recomend kenny? hes a sponsor from simplydiscus and his are absolutely stunning everytime i get a shipment from him i dont ever worry.
