i'm setting up 300 g peacock bass tank in about a month , and i'm in reserch mode right now

what is the max temp these fish can live in comfortably

how often would you change water in your tanks

300 gal tank , sump pumping 1800 gph - actuall prob 1300gph+ 2 fx 6 filters

the temp question is my main concern the tank will be in the garage and it gets a bit warm at times when the garage is opened. trying to see if a chiller is something i should invest in.

i like my fish tanks to be done right and fish comfy, any newby info for p bass appreciated.

i have kept a 220 gal petrochromis tank for 5-6 years so not a complete new but now trying the bass scene

thanks guys

I have heard of people keeping cichla at temps of the low eighties but not sure for how long.Just how hot does it get in that garage?

i have read someone that some people are keeping the temp 85-90 , which seems very hight to me , i have always kept my fist around 77-80, if i have to put a chiller that will be the way to go, the garage gets opened quite often and summer time might be hard to keep temp stable without a chiller

Dont bother with 2 fx5s on a 300g.
THink a closed loop system with an ultima or pool style filter.
Or a large sump of 100g or more.

Temps for adults low to high 80s is fine. Just gotta have good turnover with lots of oxygen.
I keep my adults at 81 and my juvies at 86-87. The adults would also be fine at that temp.

I would think that it would get really hot in the garage while it is closed up as opposed to when it is open.

I will tell you though that higher temps with adults will cause them to become fiesty and aggressive. I always keep my juveniles around 84-85 degrees up to 10 inches and then I keep them at room temp after that which is usually around 78. Also with temps that high make sure that you have some type of air stone or powerhead to add oxygen to the water.

the garage is part of the house so there is central ac and heat in there,
Oh okay,well that's a good thing....makes for a comfortable viewing room.
