Well as some of you might of already known, I just picked up a Tokay gecko along with a 65g Reptarium. Only thing is someone on another site mentioned that these enclosures are horrible for Tokays but didn't mentioned why. I know it might make it harder for the Tokay to climb but don't really see what else can be wrong with this type of enclosures. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Thanks in Advance

I don't know how hard they are for a tokay to climb but because they have screened sides you will lose humidity very quickly and they're harder to keep heat in.

Ok

Well my place is humid as it is, with four fish tanks in the living room and two in the bedroom lol. This time of the year heating is not a problem but when winter comes around i'll have to switch to a fish tank as can't use heat lights on these or will melt.

They'll stil be able to climb on the screens. My giant day gecko climbs on the screen on the top of his tank all the time. Just mist the enclosure a lot and the humidity should stay up. Also use mulch that traps moisture easily.

I see what you mean:confused: It can kind of irritate the gecko´s feet or even its small claws can get stuk in the mesh. Also humity and heat will excape. Solution: put plexiglass or plastic in most of the walls, get some nice large pieces of cork to keep your gecko away from the walls most of the time(this guys love to "glue" themselfes in the back of the cork during the day:D) and youll be just fine.

chemeleons are commonly kept in reptariums and require high humidity and heat. I think the enclosure is fine as long as you keep ur heat and humidity up to par...I see no problem with the tank.

Reptariums and screen cages are great for chams because they need a lot of ventilation to thrive, more than most other common herps.

Re: keeping the humidity in, you can also wrap some plastic sheeting around the sides and back, that will help. Humidity-retaining substrate will help too; that will be a lot easier to manage if you got the softray they make for the Reptarium. The mesh is pretty fine so I could see it being an issue on their feet as coura said.
