I am planning in ordering 5 asatheros rostratum,2 asatheros rhytisma, and 7 geophagus brasiliensis. I am gonna grow these out and get pairs and sell the ones not paired up... What size will they start breeding or pair up?growth rate?diet?max size? Any other info is appreciated too

My experiance is about the 4" mark give or take, in the 8ish month range if I remember correctly.

I have only kept A. robertsoni, but they were really rough on conspecifics once they matured - even though they are super mellow towards everyone else. You may have a hard time getting the Astatheros to pair up....

Like I said, my only experience with Astatheros was with A. robertsoni, but they tried to kill each other once they grew to maturity. It makes it hard to get a pair when they are prone to fighting.

Ok well we will see how it goes... From my understanding they grow slow right? I won't be getting these for at least 2 weeks so ill work out the details

The brasiliensis will start spawning at 2-3". The Astatheros grow pretty slowly, so it will be at least 2-3 years before breeding size.

I have a group of robertsoni that are probably 4 years old and just starting to think about spawning...

Oh ok well ill still get them cause I love the way they look. Are they like gymnos and need a cool down period?

G brasieliensis find their way down to areas that have cooler periods, but I've never heard of it as a requirement. The others definitely do not need a cool off period. Astatheros are CA cichlids, whereas G. brasiliensis is SA.
