i dont believe they grow very fast. i havent really noticed a difference in the one i have in the couple months ive had it. its ~8 inches ive seen them around a foot though.
If you want other fish in your tank and actually want to see them i would advise against one. they will hog whatever part of the tank your trying to look into

well, i used to have 5. now only got one with my bichirs and it seems pretty mellow. just curious on how fast and big they potentially grow.
They can grow pretty fast, If you take a look at the fish used in the cross breeding, they are robust. I would expect them to end up anywhere between 6-8 inches with some getting a bit bigger. They are a mish mosh so its hard to say what your going to get for sure but with clean water and good feeding he should get to that size in a year or so.
Mine grows very fast, it all depends on how you take care of them, the food you feed, ect. Variety of foods make them grow faster. Compare to other cichlids like oscars they grow slower. They can get up to *' to 9".
