i'd like to now what tank mates go good with red bellys
and if thy would eat about the same stuf as oscars.
and if thy like live plants or if fake ones will work.

I assume you have a HUGE tank because these fish get large. Good tank mates would be any large peacful fish. Silver dollars, large catfish, Arrows, oscars to name a few. Live plants are big fat no because, well, they are veggie eaters!

My advice though is not get them. They get huge, are ugly and stupid! Red belly piranha look simililar, but have more of a glitter to them and better looking face and stay smaller so if available go with them.

I couldnt agree more.

They are peaceful fish, so i wouldnt house them with a jaguar or dovii,(not that it wouldnt work/before i get flamed) but any large fish that isnt overly aggressive.

They get up to 22" long and are also tall bodied and thick.

You could keep plastic plants.

I still dont understand why anyone likes them though. They look mutated.

My neighbors came over my house with a tank with a pacu in it.. I sware I want to kill the thing. I move two inches and he freaks out.. he even has places to hide. He's gonna hurt something in that tank if not the tank its self.. :wall:

I never have any spooking problem with my two pacu..they are in an 280 gal tank..the only trouble is one is over 20 inches in size and i just read they get to be 3 ft. I nearly freaked.. 3 feet is enormous and with their 4 inch thickness.. they could crack the glass.. especially when they swim along thinking they are graceful...LOL ... i had them from a baby so there is no way they are going anywhere.. even if i have to get an even bigger tank.. they are so sweet and easy going and for their size i would say they are your Gentle Giant...

WHAT this is your oppinion i like them and will keep them myself but to go out and tell someone not to get them is jsut plain dumb maybe he has enough room atleast i hope that he does

and for the plants dont put any in fake or real they will get chewed up along with heater cords plastice retaining clips.....and the list goes on pretty much if you want to keep them make sure nothing is available for them to chew on cuz they will ted had on chew through a lead weight

Not called tankbusters for nothin eh? :)

They can be kept with anything that is not to much smaller than them, they will eat small fish. an 8" one will eat 3" fish. The problem here is they grow very quickly and out grow almost everything. Oh well, if it gets to big you can eat it.
They eat plants and chew up plastic plants and decoration, in at least one case they have killed themselves by breaking a heater trying to eat it.
Theywill eat the same food as oscars but should also get vegetarian pellets of veggies like carrots, squash, pumpkins, and bits of apple.
Although easy to keep I do not recomend them as beginner fish

If you have the room than red belly pacus are great fish. I have one currently with 25 other fish of various sizes. (see my sig)
