Preface (optional reading, for those who might remember me): I moved out of my parents house to start college a year ago, and then had to move my 225 gallon out of the house and into my dad's office building, so that they could do some renovations at the house, so for the past year, my mom's been taking care of my 36 gallon, which remains at home, and my dad's been "taking care" of my 225 gallon at his office (he and his employees have managed to kill 4 of my fish already), so I have effectively been out of the hobby during this time, only getting to see my fish when I come by to do water changes every two weeks. Today, I took 2/3 of the angels out of the 36 gallon and brought them to the lfs for a trade-in (I've had 15 angels in that tank for the past 3 years, because the two that I started with spawned, and selling off the fry ended up being more difficult than expected, so I just never got it done), and I got $40 in store credit off of them, so since 1) I had several empty aquariums laying around at home, 2) my dorm allows aquariums up to I think 30 gallons, and 3) my 225 has become pretty empty, I decided I'd pick up a couple grow-outs and set up an aquarium in my dorm room (using well established filter media, to avoid the whole cycling process).
The issue at hand: So I bought a green severum and a BGK (both around 3in/8cm long) and put them in a 24 gallon aquarium [23.25 x 11.5 x 20.75in (59 x 29 x 53cm)] and I'm wondering how long it will take the BGK to outgrow this aquarium, and also wondering at what size I should consider it too large for the aquarium...
I'm trying to plan out how I am going to upgrade it over time. Right now, I'm thinking what I will probably do is let it outgrow this aquarium, then move it into the 36 gallon bowfront for a while (but it currently houses the 5 remaining angels, as well as a pearl gourami and some Corydoras that I also bought today, so some of those fish would have to move into the 24 gallon at that point), and after it outgrows that tank, I think it may be ready to be introduced into the 225 gallon... If not, I would either have to partition the 225, or set up a 55 gallon for it to finish growing out in, but I think that's a long way down the road, so I'm not too worried about that right now.
Oh and since I'm here, could anyone tell me how difficult it is to wean these guys onto pellets (especially Hikari floating pellets, if possible)? The lfs was feeding him live blackworms, and I'm going to be starting him out on frozen bloodworms.
