Today I bought an Eheim 2217 for my 55g, due to my poor knowledge on this filter I ended up with lots of water on the floor but eventually had it set up. I have heard comments that this filter makes no noise but mine had a slight hum to it(slightly louder than AC filter), is this normal?

Edit: Also can anyone tell me how to correctly prime this filter? I have no idea on how to get the air out.

I just picked up a used 2215 myself today. This is what I did. After cleaning and repacking the caister I siphon tank water into the canister until full then installed the top. I then installed my intake tube/hose and siphoned water through it into a bucket, then closed the valve. I then hooked it up to the canister and opened both valves on the intake side. Took the return tube/hose and placed into bucket, open valve water then siphoned thru the canister once all the air was gone closed valve, hooked up to spray bar, open valve and turn on.

That was great help thanks:D
Also, how loud was it? And to install the valves I believe I have to cut off parts of my tubes/hoses since they didn't provide me with any additional hoses for installing the valves right?

I've had a 2215 in the past, and currently multiple 2217's on my 150. They are virtually silent once all the air is out. I cannot hear them unless I put my head between the two filters, underneath the tank.

Yes, you need to cut the tubes for use of the valves.

Good luck - these are great filters!
