Hi,I started an indoor pond a while back but had to stop due to money issues.I am now back and want to finish this pond but there has been some changes in my layout in the basement and I can now go 12' x 6' x 30".

Here are some question, sorry if they sound dumb, first I have seen a couple different way to build the walls either like a studed wall of a house and than laying flat stacking one on top of each other with spacers between full lenght 2 bys, which do you think would be better
Next pump and filtration, what size pump do you think wold be best.
as for filtration I have a 55 gallon plastic drum that is fish safe, could that be used as a filter.

Let me know what everybody thinks,I want to do this right this will hold my not so little RTC.
Thanks

For the inside you can use plywood as your wall then cover it up with Styrofoam and then your pond liner. The 55g drum should be fine as a filter.

between a stud wall like a house wall and stacking the 2x4's, the stacking version is more stable and will probably last longer. more strength that way, if you are going 12' for the length of your tank i would recommend the stacking version with 12' 2x4's rather than a stud style wall, it will help keep it from bowing out in the middle. use treated lumber or stain them first, and i would double layer 1/2" plywood minimum on the inside of the wall and then polystyrene inside that. cheap carpet works well to make sure the liner doesnt get pinched into the corners, just tape it in place to the insulation. also i recommend as thick of a base of insulation on the floor under the liner as possible, alot of heat is lost into a concrete basement floor

Appox. 1350 gals. if filled to the max 2.5' height.

A pump that does 2500+ is a start, with an RTC maybe more. Your cat is only going to produce more waste as it ages, so will any tankmates if there is any.

I would use the 55 drum as a settling chamber if space allows for other filtration.

55 drum is a Vortex that is the first stage in the filter. Check out Koi pond filters. It acts as a settleing chamber for solids. You could build a base/platform for the bottom of the pond that would allow for a bottom drain to be plumbed. The base also allows for a lot of insulation away from the floor.
