Quick ? About matrix/pond matrix

Just got a 4liter bucket of pond matrix & was gonna add it to my sump. Just curious if I need to do a pre rinse on it before I add it to my sump or just use it straight outta the bucket..

Simple question I know but thought I'd ask since I haven't had much exp with matrix.

Definitely rinse it. It has a white dust on it when new

Yeah, no harm in rinsing it. That dust could cloudy up the tank a little bit though

Yup, rinsing is a good idea on most things going into the tank (pellet and flake food excepted) as you can never be 100% certain where it's been. (it can have oil, dust, etc.) It's a lot easier than dealing with it after it's in the water column.

Don't put anything in your tank without rinsing it - ever. There is always at least going to be dust on it you want to get rid of.
