So I signed the lease and all saying I have no animals besides the fish of course. If I call and talk to them, what is the likelyhood of them saying it's okay for me to get a dog. I would be paying the pet down payment and $20 extra a month, but can they even do that? Since I signed the lease without an animal.

If they allow dogs and require you to put down a deposit or pay more, and you do so, why not?

yes they can. im looking at a place that has a $300 pet deposit and $10 a month "pet rent". my fiance will be moving in with me after i've lived there, we're going to "forget" to mention the dog

in my first place i moved in w/o having a dog. we got one after 3 months and paid the pet deposit

They'll bust you on the dog. They purposely watch for that. My friend got hit for his deposit plus some.

just keep as many pets without them knowing. give stray cats and dogs a place to stay at your place. its good for the ozone layer.

Thanks alot guys. A friend will be coming home from school during Thanksgiving and were going to a pound and getting a dog. I didn't know if they were strict about this type of thing.

You are soooo damn random. But I'll keep this valuable info in mind.:)

Okay guys another queston. No bashing plz, I've done nothing yet.

So I've been looking for a dog and found this just awesome puppy. It's a basset hound/spaniel mix, absolutely awesome looking. It's a female. The thing is there is only 1 left and I have the money, But I can't tell the landlords people that I'm getting a dog until Monday since their close now and obviously not open Sunday. SHould I just get it,or wait. The thing is waiting I have no clue if it will be there Tuesday, lots of people want it but noone has shown up with the dough yet.

I'm confused. Does your landlord have a pet policy in place, or is it "no pets allowed" and you're begging for an exception? If the latter, don't bring in a dog until you've gotten permission. If the former, I would think it would be OK if you just contact the landlord ASAP (or even leave a message over the weekend, so they'll see it first thing in the morning), but it really depends on the landlord. If you wait until you have a new agreement in writing before bringing the pet in, you will be safe from liability/ breach of contract issues.

You can have a cat/dog but you need to tell them and everything of course. I didn't have one at the moment when I moved in but I was planning on getting one. The girl landlord person seemed real nice, but it's not like I actually know her.
