So about a week ago I got a new canister filter
decided I would try the cheap 100 dollar cascade
turns out it does pretty well! But my question is
do you prefer the Spray bar or directed flow?

I kinda wonder if the directed flow might be better
because I assume the bar probably restricts the flow
a considerable amount and if the direct flow is near
the surface it might oxygenate better than the bar?

i would go with the directed flow for that very reason and it will act as a powerhead to keep gunk circulating so that it can be filtered better. just angle it so that it makes ripples on the surface of the water...not splashing about the surface.

Alright cool thanks.

I just got a Cascade 500 a couple days ago and I use the directed flow thing. I think the spray bar would probably lower the filter's gph.

Heh yeah was rather noisy too.. not sure if the direct flow has much
power behind it to do much other than ripple though. But should be
filtering faster and such now more efficiently..
