Hey I am cycling a 30 gallon tank and I want to cycle it as quick as possible.

I have another tank set up and I pulled some plants and rocks out of it and put it in the cycling tank....does that do anything. PLus I put about 10 goldfish in there. I have a cycled ten gallon as well. Should I put the ten gallon filter in the 30? WOuld that help.

Is there anything else I can do to speed up the cycle?

doesnt matter what you do, with 10 gold fish in a new 30 its going to crash. Pull out 8 of the gold fish and buy some Bio-Spira. Good luck.

Pull the old filter media from the other tank and just let it sit inside the new tank. Should cycle in an hour or so. In my old 120g I cycled in an afternoon and had rays swimming happily the next day.

Wash your other filters and pour the gunk from them into the new filter. It is way better than any stuff you get in a bottle. The new filter won't catch everything on the first pass but don't worry, it will all get in there in a short amount of time.

The gunk from the other filters has the bacteria that the new filter needs. For what it is worth, you don't cycle a tank, you cycle the filter. Moving the filter on the ten gallon will help if nothing is in the 10g.

:iagree: (you type faster :D ) I had a new filter that was consuming everything my fish could throw at it in two days by using this method.

Nice...thanks guys.....

I didn't know it was a Filter Cycle more then the tank. Cool. Well I will get that taken care of tonight.

Thanks again thats good info.

It is just weird terminology. You cycle the filter but we say that you cycle a tank. It is missleading and causes quite a bit of confusion. In a nutshell, it is all about the nitrogen cycle which happens in the filter. (A very minor part occurs in the tank and other equipment.)

awesome....I know the info on the cycle of a tank but that is good to know it is mainly the filter that you are focusing on, that I did not know.
