ok guys i come home today to find my oscar tank full of fish flakes cause my girlfriend knocked the flakes over and my first fish ever with these huge gashes in him. is this HITH or is him ramming rocks going after guppies? there was no pits or anything yesterday but i did do a 50% water change.

Looks like an injury to me.

You need to get the food out of the water or you are going to get ammonia.

I would plan on doing a few more water changes in the next 48 hours. As in 2x a day for 2 or 3 days if needed.

thanks a lot for the very speedy reply. im getting the flakes out right now, i was about to have a heart attack and some loud words with my girlfriend lol

Neither will help. Storing the fish food where it can't ever fall into the tank will help.

The best medicine for an injury is super super clean water.

So the extra water changes to get rid of the food will also help heal up the boo boo.

yeah def looks like injury, do as others have suggested and clean up the water and also adding some salt to the water will help him heal a bit faster

+1 on the salt and clean water and O will heal up quickly. probably want to take out any sharp objects that can hurt them though. oscars are very clumsy....

+1, and are you sure it isnt the other O picking on him? Os can be pretty conspecific aggressive when they want to be
