I read alot of posts on here about people saying that the XP1,2 and 3 filters take forever to prime when you are done cleaning. Solution:After cleaning hook everything back up clamp down all four clamps, plug in the filter, then when you hear the water running/dripping back into the filter, flip open the 2 front clamps, the water will rise really fast so keep your eye on it, when water level is about 1/2 to 1 inch from the top clamp that sucker down and your done!. Hope this helps out.

i always put the filter back together, hook the hoses back on and clamp them down, and leave the filter off....and in just a few seconds its full of water cause of gravity. then i plug it in. doesnt take long at all.

Doesnt the grinding and crunching of the motor irritate you though, hahaha j/k. Im just very impatient. I stand in front of a microwave and go "come on, I dont have all minute"!!! :swear: :swear:

I used to have a lot of trouble priming my XP-3 when cleaning it. What I do now, is to keep a bucket of tank water handy when cleaning it. I put alll of the bio-media in the bucket while I clean the rest of the filter, and the foam pads. I put each basket back in while it is dry and add water to top off each basket as it goes in. It is easier to get them to join together without water. When I am done, I make sure the water just covers the top basket. When I put the hoses back on the top, and open the quick disconnect I hear the water start to flow into the canister. I give it 2 or 3 minutes and it will start right up. As long as the cannister is full when you re-connect it sould start up without needing a prime.

Doing it without filling the cannister all of the way may require you fill the hoses to re-prime. This used to be a pain in the a** for me, and very frustrating. Doing it with the cannister full has solved the problem of running it dry.

My XP3 is below the tank, all I do is connect and watch the bubbles flow, once bubbles stop I turn it on and it Magically works!!
