i have an fx5 and a fluval 405 on my 125 gallon tank and a powerhead hangin on the back to increase cirtculation. will this be enough to oxygenate my water? currently have a red devil, JD, Oscar, clown knife, large pleco, palmas palmas, and parrot fish in the tank. if not what else could i do to increase it?

also both filter intakes are as close to the bottom as possible but fish crap is still hangin out on top of my sand... any suggestions?

direct your outputs different or lower or try to lower the intakes u need that debris to move toward the the intake its trial & error

Unless your fish are breathing heavy, that should be plenty of O2. If they're breathing okay, don't mess with it.

Be careful with those filter intakes. Don't get them too close to the sand or you may fry the impeller. You can try putting a sponge over the intake to keep the sand out, but its probably easier just to change the powerhead setup. The Koralia powerheads have a big gentle flow & are great for sand. I use a Koralia 1 to give my loaches some current to surf in, but I like to use a traditional hi-pressure powerhead (I like AquaClears) to blow the crud across the back of the tank toward the filter intakes. The Koralia picks it up off the sand & the AquaClear sends it to the filter.

yea last night and this morning the big oscar and the red devil where starting to gulp air i put an old airstone in their to try and help out seemed to do a little but they where still not looking great. i heard that the airstones are really just for viewing purposes and dont add much in o2 any truth o that?... cant play wit the filer output they are connected to bulkheads. i will try and play around with the powerhead tho. Thanks

The FX5 alone is sufficient. Locate the return approx. 5 inches below the surface and point the nozzles upward at about a 1-2 o'clock position. This will agitate the surface and force the oxygenated water forward and down.

if you position the filter outtakes near the surface they will agitate the water surface and break the surface tension allowing oxygen exhange.... also if the output is on the surface it will roll the water and youll find that in the right position in regards to the intakes it will give the best results ;)

went out and got a petco powerhead blew away the one that came with my tank and only cost $15. everyone is looking MUCH better thanks for the suggestions about keeping the sand clean that is the next step.
