I have a striped pictus cat in my 55 with a jack dempsey and convict. The pictus is healthy and doesn't seem to swim a lot like he did in the store. He does eat the shrimp pellets really well that I have for him though. My question is: Is it wise to get another pictus for him to swim around with, or is it because he is still new to the tank? (got him yesterday). Additional information is the pictus is about 4.5'' and doesn't get picked on.

We'll wait and see, if he doesn't start swimming around like a "maniac" lol, in about a week, would it be smart to get another one?

yep, that looks just like him. Why?

Oh I thought you meant the spotted pictus (didn't see the word "striped"). The four-line pim is an active fish as well, but not as active as the spotted pictus. I'm not sure if they prefer to be kept in groups or not, but I would imagine that they do fine solo

Just making sure I knew what fish we were talking about. My four line pims are in a group of three. Try and stick together and enjoy each others company but also occasionally get nippy at each other. Mine are a bit less active still after having them 1 year. I think part of it is that I have somewhat bright lighting and they prefer things dim. My intent is to change out lights and see if things change.

I have one of those four-line pim cats. They aren't all that active. Spotted pictus are definitly much more active. My four-line pim just kinda sits there for the most part, but then he goes insane when it's feeding time.
