hi

i have a quick qestion what is lighter a plywood tank or a glass tank, is there a bug different weight. thanks

I'm guessing but I would say the ply tank is lighter.

i don't think it would be that much difference..... why do you ask?

i wanted to know because i am planning to building a 300g tank so if there is a big difference in their weights then i would go for the lighter one.;)

oh well for that matter you won't have much difference at all. each gallon of water will weigh 8 lbs..... but if you're that concerned i would look into the supporting floor joists ahead of time

http://homepages.which.net/~paul.hills/Materials/MaterialsBody.html
tensil strength of plywood is 31 mpa(which seems really low to me)
http://www.roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/Matter/Glass.html
tensil strength of glass is 27MPa to 62 MPa(but specially tempered can be up to 10x stronger)

i would say it depends upon the quality of glass you get.

(if your wondering why the tensil strength in the first link is so hi for glass is because perfect glass is very strong but almost every glass thing we buy already has microfractures in it that reduces it strength significantly)
