do hang on back overflows ( purchesed ones with the boxs) work the same is conner overflows saying the more the pump pushes in the tank the more water overflows down to the sump or do you have to match the flow of water being pulled out to the return pump excatly?

ok follow me here. the overflow is gonna flow whatever the excess water is, as fast as it can. example a 1/2in tube cant flow as much per min as say a 2in tube can.

the pump in the sump pushes the water back into the tank, which creates the excess water that will overflow back into the sump.

if the pump dies or power goes out the overflow is just gonna flow water til it reaches the level you set it to.

just make sure you can flow more out of the tank into the sump. otherwise your pump will move water into the tank faster than the overflow can get it back out. in that case water gets on the floor.

you follow now?

btw i have no idea what a conner overflow is.

Hang on overflow boxes have a flow rate to them, depending on the size of you tank you may want more than one. Ball vales and check vales are going to be your friends!

Yah i'm pretty sure since HOB overflows are siphon operated the siphon can only pull so much at one time, there for restricting the whole w/e you pump in will fall down the overflow. Thats just what i think tell me if i'm wrong

That's a little funny :nilly:

Just make sure the sump doesn't have more water than needed. As mentioned above, the excess water will go down as fast as it is allowed. If you never put something like this together ask for help and tune it properly.

Make sure the overflow is rated higher than the pump.

With that criteria met the HOB overflow will act exactly like a drilled tank would

You do not have to match flow rates, you have to make sure that the pump isn't going to over power the overflow (this also applies to drilled tanks).

Literally, think of it as an overflow.
