Hey,

So my angel fish have been breeding like it's their day job..ahem..

Anyway, it's come time to release the babies into the freedom of other fish keepers.
Nothing special, just assorted angels..a little larger than dime size. Aabout 20 have already gone to new homes and have been alive and well.

The owner of the store said he'd be happy to do a in-store credit type deal with me.However we never discussed specifics. Tomrrow I plan on calling him to do so before I haul these guys down there.

Quick questions:

He sells out of these angels FAST...
They go for 4.99 each

How much do I ask for in-store credit per fish?

If I choose to do a cash trade, which depending I might do...what should I ask per fish ?

Thanks again,
Kat

so 2 dollars per fish? either way with trade-in or cash out? I have a lot of fish tanks so, store credit is good for me to haha.

That sounds good, considering he won't have these as overhead for more than a week generally.

Thanks!

they're not going to do half price. I used to work retail as a store manager. Mark ups are normally at least that for store goods that don't have to be quarantined, fed, etc...So take that into account. It's going to cost them more than just the cost of paying you to get these fish and sell them. And once all is said and done, the store expects to make 100% profit on the cost of the fish from the time it is brought into the store to the time it sells (price they pay you, price of food for the fish, price of all overhead for quarantine, etc...).

If I were you, I'd be happy with $1-$1.50 each. But you'd be better off to trade for some fish food, or something like that as you'll likely get a better deal because the store doesn't make/lose money on it, and they may trade it to you at cost, which is a price you likely can't get. (ex. you can take $20 cash, or 4 tins of NLS that retail for $10 each, but the store gets them for $5 each).

Hope that all made sense.

No that makes perfect sense.
When I was doing rough numbers in my head I figured that amount to, 1-1.50.I sold them at 2.00 each to local fish club members here.

I literally live a block away from this fish store and the owner knows me VERY well.
We've had a discussion briefly as it appears it's difficult for him to get angel fish in(don't ask me why) but I was hoping through a local fish club here I could bring in some different angel fish and start a small breeding program to provide him with a collection of angel fish every couple months.

Our selection of fish here is slim lol..I don't know why..*sighs*

None the less, thank you. I'm more than happy to trade for food ect as my larger fish eat like pig's.
I order my brine shrimp eggs from another source as I can get larger quantities at a better price so, helping me in that department he can not..He only gets in those small tubes of them so it's not beneficial to me when I have 5-6 grow out tanks going haha.

I would do trade in for products as well and hey that's a pretty good thing that he needs angelfish because you could get some products.

I've done half of retail. They won't allow for cash. They always offer store credit. I doubt you will get cash. Keep in mind that your angels are common. The rarer the fish, better your negotiating power.

Most of the time we offer 1/3 of what we are selling them for and store credit can only be used on fish because products are not marked up as much, I know of another store that will only give 25% and will only do so after the tradein has sold
