does anyone know why freshwater stingrays are illegal in california? we would really like to get one but obviously we cant so i was just curious as to why they are illegal? :stingray:

They are illegal because ur local water are warm enoght for you to releas one into the waters. Then breeding happens and the whole eco system is messed up

yup what he said...

If the terminator was smart he would allow a thousand leopoldi stingray to be released into a river system.. Cali's new cash crop :D

Honestly its just a prevenative, Just in case kind of senario, But honestly the only time of year for rays to have a chance to survive in california waters are during the summer months. And if there were any in the lakes or river systems right now those rays would be catfish food or just would have died of the temp.

dont blame ya there awsome but thats the laws

The best answer I could find was that back in the 50's, all the states that bordered on the Colorado river had a meeting of the F&G departments to put together a list of the fish species that could survive if released into the river... of course, there is no way rays could survive, since the temperature, current, pH and substrate would be not suitable environments, but that seems to be the reason...
