you could get a package of aquaclear biomedia for like 4 dollars and it would be more than enough for a betta.

I wouldn't recommend the shower scrubbies. Once they collect dirt, they compact down too much and restrict water flow. The kitchen scrubbies are more rigid against compression.

Thanks for the replies, The only reason i ask, is my girlfriend has like 6 unused bath scrubbies layin around, and this is just a quick project that I would prefer to spend no money on.

The scrubbies won't be the only media in the filter, so I'm not to worried about them compacting, since they are not the mechanical filtration.

I was more worried wether they had any kind of harmful chemicals(like fragrances or soaps)

Went to the dollar store tonight and bought what they had on the shelf and what was left in the case in the back. 246 scrubbies cost me $41 plus tax

eww. Show her to the shower and make sure she stays there awhile!

In other news.. Those shower scrubbies somehow disintegrate over time so another reason to skip 'em.
