patience. lots of dovii seem to be shy till they hit about a foot and then then they seem to come out of their shell

Ok lol if he not eating or beating someone up he's hiding. He's def on the verge to being by himself

The dovii I had several years ago was shy like that. Lived with a Niger cat and I saw the cat more than I did the dovii. He did take up briefly with a blackbelt that was being attacked in another tank. For some reason, the dovii and blackbelt got along fine. My dovii got up to around 10 inches before I lost him.

How big was the tank they were in?

My dovii was in a 75 until I could get something bigger. Raised him from 2 inches to almost 10 inches. He liked to hide behind a big piece of driftwood.
