quick question for experienced fx5 owners

up until a month ago i had aquarium sand in my 180 then i converted back to gravel---last night i did maintenance on both my fx5s and one didnt start at all, my guess is some sand got into the impeller. my question is can i take off the impeller housing and clean it without taking the entire filter out and draining it

No, if you take the impeller housing off, the water will drain out.

yeah you have to drain all the water out first because theres a hole for the pump in the bottom so the water would come out if u just took the impeller out with water in the canister.


i'm not experienced i just got my fx5 a few days ago but i hope this helpd
