Ok, I've planned to do some outdoors pond to keep a large varied collection of turtles. I plan to use pond Liner to make custom shapes and sizes, but my main concern is rain. How do you guys go about keeping the water from overflowing if you dont have a pump when it rains? I plan to keep natural ponds only filtration would be thru water hyacinth, duckweed, and water lettuce. I dont want them to flood, and ruin the habitat or any eggs laid. Also any recommendations for heavy duty pond liners?? Or any advice on how to renforce it?

Thank you

40 mil. liner should be fine for all turtles except snappers.

If you cover the liner w/rocks and gravel that will help block UV light and etend the life of the liner. Gravel will help w/sharp claws and turtles that are rooting around for food.

An over flow is an easy fix for flooding. Is the pond going to be on a slope or near a low spot in the yard? Depending on the size/volume of the pond. A 2" bulkhead w/flexible PVC running 10'+ away from the pond will be fine on up 5K gal. I would say.

Burm the earth around the pond before installing the liner or build a wall above ground level so run-off can't enter the pond.
